Visiting Hours for Girls Hostel

VISITORS
 
          At the time of admission each resident will be given 3 visitors cards (one of the parents and other two for declared visitors). The parents are to declare the visitors and their relationship. Only such visitors who are declared by the parents are permitted to visit the students during visitors hours.

          10.00 a.m. ……………………6.00 p.m. (holidays)
 
          Visitors are not permitted to take the students outside the campus. No visitors without the visitors cards will be allowed to visit the hostel.
 
          Guests are not permitted to stay overnight in the hostel.
 
          Resident are advised to keep their belongings under lock and key and also to lock their rooms whenever go out.
 
          Students are advised not to keep expensive jewellery or heavy cash in their rooms.

Timing for MESS

PAYMENT OF MESS BILL
 
Mess bill period is 21st to 20th of subsequent month. Mess bill will be informed before 1st of every month. Payment of mess bill is as follows.
 
1st to 20th without fine
 
From 21st to month end…………………Rs.50-00 fine
 
From 1st to 10th of next month…………..Rs.100-00 fine
 
From 11th to 20th of next month…………Rs.150-00 fine
 
On 21st, the students will be expelled from the hostel.
 
From rejoining, the students has to pay mess bill+Rs.150.00 as fine+Rs.200 as readmission fee. Readmission is permitted only 3 times during            the course of their study.
 
Persistent or frequent may be required to bring their parents/guardians for a personal assurance regarding regular payment.

Meals should be taken only in the dining halls, meals should not be taken to the rooms.
 
In the case of sick persons, the diet will be allowed to be taken to the rooms, however all such cases of rooms service should be authorized by the hostel superintendent.

Rules & Regulation

General
  • The hostel with a capacity of 569 seats for boys and 279 for girls is administered by the principle, the ex-officio warden with the assistance of associate warden, hostel superintendents, deputy wardens and resident tutors.
  • The warden is vested with powers to regulate admission and to enforce and interpret rules.
  • Every student, when he is admitted into the hostel, must give an undertaking in writing that he will abide by the rules of the hostel and he may be subjected to any disciplinary action imposed on him    by the authorities.
  • The deputy warden of a block will act as loco parents to all students residing in that block.
  • After admission, no student shall leave the hostel without a written application from his parents or guardian.
  • At the end of each year, membership is terminated an the rooms with furniture, fittings, etc., shall be handed over infact by the members.
  • Admission and allotment of rooms in the following year will start   only one or two days prior to the re-opening day of the college.
  • Residing in the hostel for any period does not confer any right of membership for the next period. The warden may admission to any student without assigning any reason.
  • Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited. Those found indulging in ragging will be dismissed from the hostel and if necessary from the college.
  • Students are not permitted to keep and use powered vehicles such as motor cycles, scooters, etc., inside the campus. Any students found in possession of such vehicles shall be expelled from the hostel.      

Any student who is found indulging in undesirable activities such   as physical assault, damage to property etc., will be liable to the   following punishment(s).

  • He/she will be expelled from the hostel and mess and his/her parents will be informed of the same.
  • A record of his/her misconduct will be made in the personal life.
  • The cost of damage will be fully recovered from his/her together with penalty.
  • He/she will also be find commensurate with the offence committed.
  • The privilege of appearing for campus interviews, will be denied, when he/she reaches the final year
  • No recommendations will be given be given to him/her will  studies aboard.
  • Any students found hosting/harbouring an offender will also be liable for punishments mentioned in (1.11).
  • A students are permitted to keep and use only radio receiver without disturbance to other inmate and with the written permission of the deputy warden without causing any damage to the electrical wiring system. However they are strictly prohibited from possession and use of other musical systems like stereo and amplifier systems.Violation is punished with fine or expulsion from the hostel.
  • Residents shall not patronize pedlars, hawkers, dhobhies not authorized.
 
Lodging
 
  • Allotment of rooms shall be made by the deputy warden under orders of the warden.
  • Allotment shall be made only after the payment of room rent and electricity charges for the whole year.
  • Members may occupy only the rooms allotted to them and shall not change the rooms among themselves.
  • Members may be shifted from one room to another by the deputy wardens without assigning any reason.
  • Members are responsible for the care of furniture and fittings in their respective rooms. In case of damages or loss, the cost of furniture and fittings will be recovered from them.
  • Members shall not use any extra electrical fittings, unless permitted, on payments of charges.
  • Members can entertain a guest only if permitted by the deputy wardens.
  • Lady guests are not permitted to remain in the boys hostel between 7.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m.
  • A hast members will be required to pay service charges as may be fixed from time to time.
  • The hostel management does not accept any liability for the property left in the rooms the students are advised not to bring any valuables to the hostels.
  • Students are not allowed to stay in the hostel rooms without being a member of any of the messes.
  • Students are expected to keep their rooms & surroundings clean & tidy.
 
Additional Rules for Girs Hostel
 
The following rules and regulations are supplementary to the general rules and regulations for hostel already in existence.
 
The aim of running the girls hostel is to provide a home away from home for the girls who are away from their parents. The rules are framed for the common good and smooth functioning of the hostel, harmonious fellowship among the immates and al the residents are expected to abide by the rules. The senior students are expected to set a god example to the juniors so that self-respect, self confidence and spirit of  accommodation shall be instilled in the minds of all the residents.
 
  • Residents should be present in the hostel between 6.30 p.m. and 6.30 a.m. if students want to go out to town, they should write names in the register intended for the purpose giving time of. Leaving and expected time of return. If the outgoing time is ore that 4 hours, they should get prior permission of the deputy warden/resident tutor in writing. Violation of those rules will result in summary expulstion from the hostel.
  • Roll can will be taken between 6.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. students are expected to be in their rooms only.
  • Absence from the hostel on reopening day after a spell of holidays   after week-ends shall be intimated in advance by the parent/guardian with whom she goes to say.
  • No resident is permitted to stay outside the hostels during the night without the written permission of her parents and the written permission of the deputy warden.
  • Students will be allowed to go home only if there is written request for the same from the same parent/guardian on valid grounds only.Going home too frequently is not permitted.
  • All cases of in disposition should be reported to the deputy warden immediately. College medical officer can be called when necessary. The students are advised to contact college medical officer first before containing medical specialist or clinics outside. Leave on medical grounds will be recommended by the college medical officer.
  • Modesty in dress shall be observed.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Boarding Rules

The following fees are payable by a member at the time of admission into hostel

1 Admission Fee Rs.200.00
2 Caution Deposit   Rs.3000.00 (which is refundable at the time of leaving the hostel)
3 Block Deposit   Rs.1500.00 (which is refundable at the time of leaving the hostel)

1 Computer Rs.500.00 per year
2 Fan Rs.200.00 per year
3 Iron Box Rs.200.00 per year

 

 

 

 

  • An establishment charge of Rs.2750/- will be collected every year.This amount is subject to change depending upon the expenses of the hostel.
  • Amenities,Maintenance and other charges Rs.3220.00 will be collected every year.
  • Double the electrical charge will be collected from the students using appliances without proper permission
  • The mess charges are based on the dividing system
  • The monthly accounting periods from 21st a month to 20th of the next month.The monthly bills will normally, be published on the 30th of every month.
  • Mess charges will be due from the date of issue of the mess bill.
  • Members bringing guests should purchase tokens on payment of cash and produce them in the mess hall before the food being served.
  • A member of the mess is normally permitted to get tokens worth Rs.100.00 per month on credit to get extra items.
  • Mess reduction will not be provided during college working days.However mess duration will be provided extraordinary on grounds.
  • Transfer of meals or any part there of is not permitted on any account.
  • Students except the mess representative are not permitted to enter the kitchen or store room of the mess an any account.
  • Students are not permitted to cook any food on their own occord in the messes or in their rooms.
  • Students on no account whatsoever will be permitted to take the food in the mess.
  • All the students must have a plate and tumber taing their food in the mess.
  • Dining more than one person in a single plate is not permitted.

I3 CLUB
 
The I cube  acts as the link that connects Government College of Engineering, Salem  to the corporate world. I CUBE provides the platform wherein students, academia, industry magnates and leaders from all walks of life come together and share ideas. Through its various initiatives round the year, I CUBE ensures that the budding managers stay in touch with the real world, while honing their skills in the classrooms. Entrusted with all non-placement industry-related activities at Government College of Engineering, Salem, I CUBE is committed to forging a long-term symbiotic relationship between the institution and the industry. I CUBE provides plenty of opportunities to the student community at GCES to test their business acumen through Live Projects offered in various domains. It allows them to have a first-hand experience of the business issues faced by organisations I CUBE also organises year round workshops and guest lectures from the industry practitioners along with the Leadership Talk series, a year round series of lectures from industry leaders. Through this initiative GCES has witnessed the presence of speakers like Dr. Raji, Purdue University, Prof. Kalyanasundaram, Dr. Kasi Periyasami, Wisconsin University among others.
 
To promote Industry - Institute Interaction following schemes are being undertaken

Rotract

ROTRACT CLUB
 
The Rotaract club of GCE is an extension of Rotaract club of Salem West zone. The Rotaract is the child of the international Rotarian organisation. This Rotaract club in college has an excellent student’s involvement. The students of first year, second and third year are involved in these activities. Among them, nominations for president, secretary, office bearers are held. This club activity is organized under the guidance of Mrs. Vimala Rousaline The chair man of this club is our principal.
ACTING TOWARDS THE GOAL
The motto, "Service to people" is best exemplified through this students chapter. Students are trained to gain engineering knowledge, to inculcate a helping tendency and to involve themselves in service minded activities. There are about 300 Rotaract members actively participating in the club’s activities.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES - SERVICE PROJECTS
The project leader organises weakly projects like visiting and helping the Salem zone orphanages and old age homes. 
The students arrange guidance classes for higher secondary and state board students of the very poor rural schools.
They also provide some essentials in some homes for infants or small kids.
For raising funds for these activities, many cultural programs are held. Activities for students like personality development classes, placement training, and career guidance classes are being conducted in the college in weekends.
Apart from giving AWARDS as encouragement, every year inaugral function is being conducted to keep it lively and enthusiastic.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Every Year it arranges for bookfair exclusively for engineering students in college, helping students to get books at reasonable discounts.
It is the active blood donar, i.e. students are always ready to provide blood at any time and all times when there is a need and demand.
Thus rotract club inculcates the servicing spirit and brings out the students with humanity and wisdom in their practical lives.
