Government College of Engineering, Salem-11, was started during the Third Five-year plan in the year 1966 and is located on a 162 hectares site surrounded by hills. GCE, Salem was then, the Third Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu. The first batch of students was selected for the academic year 1966-1967. The institution offers 6 UG and 6 PG programmes. The institute is NACC accredited with B+ grade and B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is NBA accredited. GCE, Salem is a recognized center for research under Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S., programmes. All the departments have well-qualified faculty members and excellent infrastructural facilities. GCE, Salem was supported by World Bank Financial Assistance, TEQIP phase I to III. GCE, Salem has excellent computer facilities with Internet Connectivity in all the departments. GCE, Salem is one of the participating institutions in Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) programme offered by Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India.
