Genesis of GCE

  • Government College of Engineering, Salem-11, was started during the Third Five year plan in the year 1966 and is located on a 162 hectares site surrounded by hills GCE, Salem was then the Third Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu. The first batch of students was selected for the academic year 1966-1967. The institution offers  6 UG and 6 PG programmes.
  • GCE, Salem is a recognized center for research under  Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S., programs.  All the departments have well qualified faculty members and excellent infrastructural facilities. GCE, Salem  is supported by World Bank Financial Assistance, TEQIP phase II to the tune of 17.5 crores and 7.0 crores under TEQIP Phase III.
  • GCE, Salem has excellent computer facilities with  Internet Connectivity  in all the  departments. GCE, Salem is one of the participating institution in Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) programme offered by Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India.
  • GCE, Salem hostels are provided with the Wi-Fi access. GCE, Salem  has strong tie-ups with  R&D labs & Industries. The industrial experts frequently interact with the institution for making the students  industry-ready. GCE, Salem is thus growing from strength to strength and gaining recognition for its contribution to the cause of Engineering Education.
