Government College of Engineering, Salem-11, was started during the Third Five-year plan in the year 1966 and is located on a 162 hectares site surrounded by hills. GCE, Salem was then, the Third Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu. The first batch of students was selected for the academic year 1966-1967. The institution offers 6 UG and 6 PG programmes. The institute is NACC accredited with A+ grade. GCE, Salem is a recognized center for research under Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S., programmes. All the departments have well-qualified faculty members and excellent infrastructural facilities. GCE, Salem was supported by World Bank Financial Assistance, TEQIP phase I to III. GCE, Salem has excellent computer facilities with Internet Connectivity in all the departments. GCE, Salem hostels are provided with the Wi-Fi access.
