Boarding Rules

The following fees are payable by a member at the time of admission into hostel

1 Admission Fee Rs.200.00
2 Caution Deposit   Rs.3000.00 (which is refundable at the time of leaving the hostel)
3 Block Deposit   Rs.1500.00 (which is refundable at the time of leaving the hostel)

 

      

       

 

Electrical Appliances

1 Computer Rs.500.00 per year
2 Fan Rs.200.00 per year
3 Iron Box Rs.200.00 per year

 

 

 

 

  • An establishment charge of Rs.2750/- will be collected every year.This amount is subject to change depending upon the expenses of the hostel.
  • Amenities,Maintenance and other charges Rs.3220.00 will be collected every year.
  • Double the electrical charge will be collected from the students using appliances without proper permission
  • The mess charges are based on the dividing system
  • The monthly accounting periods from 21st a month to 20th of the next month.The monthly bills will normally, be published on the 30th of every month.
  • Mess charges will be due from the date of issue of the mess bill.
  • Members bringing guests should purchase tokens on payment of cash and produce them in the mess hall before the food being served.
  • A member of the mess is normally permitted to get tokens worth Rs.100.00 per month on credit to get extra items.
  • Mess reduction will not be provided during college working days.However mess duration will be provided extraordinary on grounds.
  • Transfer of meals or any part there of is not permitted on any account.
  • Students except the mess representative are not permitted to enter the kitchen or store room of the mess an any account.
  • Students are not permitted to cook any food on their own occord in the messes or in their rooms.
  • Students on no account whatsoever will be permitted to take the food in the mess.
  • All the students must have a plate and tumber taing their food in the mess.
  • Dining more than one person in a single plate is not permitted.
 

I3 (I Cube)

I3 CLUB
 
The I cube  acts as the link that connects Government College of Engineering, Salem  to the corporate world. I CUBE provides the platform wherein students, academia, industry magnates and leaders from all walks of life come together and share ideas. Through its various initiatives round the year, I CUBE ensures that the budding managers stay in touch with the real world, while honing their skills in the classrooms. Entrusted with all non-placement industry-related activities at Government College of Engineering, Salem, I CUBE is committed to forging a long-term symbiotic relationship between the institution and the industry. I CUBE provides plenty of opportunities to the student community at GCES to test their business acumen through Live Projects offered in various domains. It allows them to have a first-hand experience of the business issues faced by organisations I CUBE also organises year round workshops and guest lectures from the industry practitioners along with the Leadership Talk series, a year round series of lectures from industry leaders. Through this initiative GCES has witnessed the presence of speakers like Dr. Raji, Purdue University, Prof. Kalyanasundaram, Dr. Kasi Periyasami, Wisconsin University among others.
 
To promote Industry - Institute Interaction following schemes are being undertaken
  • Establishment of Industry-Institute Partnership /interaction Cell.
  • Organizing Workshops, conferences and symposia with joint participation of the faculty and the industries.
  • Encouraging engineers from industry to visit Engineering Institution to deliver lectures.
  • Participation of experts from industry in curriculum development.
  • Arranging visits of staff members to various industry
  • Professional consultancy by the faculty to industries.
  • Industrial testing by faculty & technicians at site or in laboratory.
  • Joint research programmes and field studies by faculty and people from industries.
  • Visits of faculty to industry for study and discussions or delivering lectures on subjects of mutual interest.
  • Visits of industry executives and practising engineers to the Institute for seeing research work and laboratories, discussions and delivering lectures on industrial practices, trends and experiences.
  • Memoranda of Understanding between the Institute and industries to bring the two sides emotionally and strategically closer.
  • Human resource development programmes by the faculty for practising engineers.
  • Collaborative degree programmes.
  • B.E. and M.E. projects/dissertation work in industries under joint guidance of the faculty and experts from industry.
  • Practising engineers taking up part-time M.Tech./Ph.D. programme at GCE Salem.

As a part of this process, GCE emphasizes the importance of sports and considers them as an integral part of the curriculum. Rotract

ROTRACT CLUB
 
The Rotaract club of GCE is an extension of Rotaract club of Salem West zone. The Rotaract is the child of the international Rotarian organisation. This Rotaract club in college has an excellent student’s involvement. The students of first year, second and third year are involved in these activities. Among them, nominations for president, secretary, office bearers are held. This club activity is organized under the guidance of Mrs. Vimala Rousaline The chair man of this club is our principal.
ACTING TOWARDS THE GOAL
The motto, "Service to people" is best exemplified through this students chapter. Students are trained to gain engineering knowledge, to inculcate a helping tendency and to involve themselves in service minded activities. There are about 300 Rotaract members actively participating in the club’s activities.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES - SERVICE PROJECTS
The project leader organises weakly projects like visiting and helping the Salem zone orphanages and old age homes. 
The students arrange guidance classes for higher secondary and state board students of the very poor rural schools.
They also provide some essentials in some homes for infants or small kids.
For raising funds for these activities, many cultural programs are held. Activities for students like personality development classes, placement training, and career guidance classes are being conducted in the college in weekends.
Apart from giving AWARDS as encouragement, every year inaugral function is being conducted to keep it lively and enthusiastic.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Every Year it arranges for bookfair exclusively for engineering students in college, helping students to get books at reasonable discounts.
It is the active blood donar, i.e. students are always ready to provide blood at any time and all times when there is a need and demand.
Thus rotract club inculcates the servicing spirit and brings out the students with humanity and wisdom in their practical lives.

Leo

LEO CLUB

  • LEO club of college of Engineering Salem plays an active role in enhancing the student's leadership qualities and skills Lions club of Salem Impact is the parent club of LEO club of Government College of Engineering, Salem.
  • LEO stands for Leadership, Experience and opportunity.
  • On all Saturdays, personality development classes are held. Topics like public speaking, interpersonal relationships, VISA application, and importance of human values are discussed. These classes are inspiring and motivate the students.
  • The biggest asset in life is helping and serving others. That’s what LEO is doing. Every Sunday, the students are encouraged to visit old age homes, orphanages, blind schools, home for mentally retarded and other places.
  • The greatest pleasure the students get is in spending time with people. As a part of their projects, students spend time with people who are physically and mentally disabled thus making them feel that there's someone who cares for them.
  • Many seminar and paper presentation competitions are held for students which help in developing their technical knowledge. Based on the performance the students are awarded with 'Active LEO ' and all the students are presented with appropriate certificates. The club Leo enhances the opportunity in increasing the experience for gaining Leadership qualities among the young engineering students.
