Department of Mechanical Engineering takes pride in being one among the three disciplines of engineering to function since the inception of GCE, SALEM. Ever since its establishment, it serves to be the birth place of vibrant technical and managerial professionals.
The Department now enjoys the responsibility of double in-take through TNEA single window counselling, admitting 120 meritorious students with the purpose of preparing the students technically and technologically, cultivating in them the right balance of edification, creating an industrial exposure all the way. Two post graduation courses, Thermal Engineering and CAD admits students who have passed TANCET or GATE with flying colours.
The Department having obtained the accreditation by NBA is fledged with 14 high prolific teaching faculties along with 31 non-teaching staff members who lay great emphasis on the core rudiments and principles, with tests premeditated in a way, where those fundamentals are reflected industrially. The brilliant state of the art facilities and advanced pristine lab equipments also helps in creating an industrial oriented atmosphere. A reference centre is also furnished holding over 1500 reference books and 500 end semester project reports.
With the global concern of preserving Mother Earth, two clubs- Green Club and Energy Club have been set up for effective functioning and establishment of an eco-friendly ambiance.
To enhance the knowledge of the students, a number of technical events, guest lectures and seminars are being organized under SME and SAE collegiate clubs. To its crown, a national level technical extravaganza MEKCHAT, sets the tone every year, welcoming all the engineering freaks from across the country to celebrate their passion for this scintillating art of engineering.
